Divinely living.

Eating out isn’t so easy to do… except at Eventide.

July5

You readers probably have been wondering after I promised a slew of posts what has happened.  Well I can tell you:  Construction.

Construction has rendered our kitchen unusable for several weeks, the main bathroom will finally be useable in about another week, and the rest of the house is covered in construction dust, except for the guest bedroom which is stacked with wedding presents.

Lack of kitchen has meant many, many nights of eating out.  Some with more success than others.  One that has proven to be successful twice now is Eventide.

I met a friend in the bar one  night a few weeks ago, then had dinner last week.  If you are a little low on dough eat at the bar, which has a great chicago inspired beef sandwich.  The beef is tender and juicy and delightfully placed with sauteed onions on a very good roll which sops up the au jus without becoming smushy.  It is served with a side salad to balance out the indulgence.  The warm olives are generous, briney and great starter.  They warm your palate and are great to eat while sipping and talking.  I also had the cheese plate which was nice.  But what was nicest was the service.  We were there when it was packed, but the bartender made sure the drinks were made nicely, our drinks didn’t go empty, our food came timely and when he saw I was sipping a drink slower than the others he offered to make me something else, thinking I didn’t enjoy it, even though I did.  They have a honey cocktail and a cava cocktail that I really enjoy.

We then went back for dinner and oh what a dinner was it.  We again had cocktails, for me it was a trip back for the honey cocktail which is bitter and sweet at the same time.  I started with the goat cheese, frisee and poached egg salad.  The poached egg had a crunchy coating to it, and was perfectly runny.  It had a nice balance with the goat cheese.  But my entree was the real winner.  I had the lobster ragu.  It was a steal at $27.  It was rich with big chunks of lobster, lobster meatballs and fresh pasta in a rich cream sauce.  It will be hard to order something else it was so good.  Also the biscuits served were delightful, real biscuits in this area are a hard find, it makes me want to go for brunch.  Dessert was the only small hiccup.  I had a strawberry rhubarb tart, the tart itself was very thick, it tasted a bit like shortbread cookies, but was hard to cut.  The filling was very good, I just wish the crust was a bit thinner and flakier.  I got a bite of hubby’s caramel ice cream and it was very creamy, smooth and not overly sweet, perhaps a better choice than the tart right now.

So brunch and rooftop bar next.

the space was lovely, spacious, comfortable and  not loud.  The decor was simple, elegant and it wasn’t overwelming, but very comfortable.  It is a nice addition to the neighbor adding to the options for more high end dining.  Welcome Eventide, thank you for great food and wonderful service.  You made eating out fun again.
