Wedding and Honeymoon Madness
So readers my apologies for not posting, but I had a wedding to host and am now in the Admiral’s Club, after a few fantastic days in San Fransisco, awaiting the second leg of my honeymoon in Australia.
Here is a small preview of what I am sure will be a very long post once I have returned:
The French Laundry- A worth it experience, I say this now as I eat one of the shortbread cookies they sent us home with us.
Wine Glass Clips- I found a product in a cooking store in Sonoma that will keep your wine glass attached to ANY plate. I still think the snack set is better, but for you girls that don’t have the built in cabinets that I will hopefully have mid-June, these will fit very nicely into any crammed drawer you have.
Wedding Wednesday- Afraid of big hair? Think again. The bigger the hair, the closer to God, girls. It is in the fashion magazines, but here is where you can get it done locally and how you can do it yourself.Â
Hostessing the Dorthy Draper Way- If the Greenbrier teaches us anything it should be that genuinely caring about all your guests, and not being afraid to be bold is the key to a successful social life.
San Fransisco’s Chinatown- This is a dangerous, dangerous place for a gal who loves to hostess, luckily there is a Fedex Kinkos right there to ship stuff home to yourself.
Wedding Wednesday- Don’t sweat it. A guide to having it all under control.
San Fransisco’s Ferry Building and the Roast Beef Sushi that I will be taking to the next party I am invited to.
Wedding Wednesday- A photographer that is big on style, small on budget in the Washington/ Virginia region.
Tablescapes with new China.
The Little Tailor’s Shop that could. Tight on budget, but hot on style- consider reworking your pieces or pieces you acquire from others into hot items for less than buying something new. And find out who can do it for you for a good price.
And last but not least KatelinTaylor burns through more of the World’s highly acclaimed hotels, where I would spend my money again (ok, ok let’s be honest where I would make Hubby spend his money again)
But since I have some time here is a short review of some places to eat in San Fransisco (will add pictures later as I have limited computer usage in the Admiral’s Club).
Top of the Mark- This is the Ruth Chris Crystal City or Hotel Washington roof deck of San Fransisco. Set on the top of Knob Hill in the Mark Hopkins Intercontinental hotel this bar has about 220 degree views of San Fransisco. It has dark coves to sit back and relax in, and the martini list is about 10 pages long give a few perhaps. I had a Sapphire Gin and Tonic (I am a gin girl, and I find every girl needs to have a classic cocktail to be taken seriously No Appletinis in a place like this, it’s too classy), a cheese plate of triple creme from Cowgirl Creamery, Humboldt Fog and a blue that I didn’t catch the origin or name of accompanied by figs, quince paste and sugared pecans. We also ordered the seared tuna, which was a great choice. The tuna was very fresh you could tell by the great red color it had. It had been cut into rectangle segments, seared on the outsides and then rolled in sesame seeds. Each small bite was on a bed of seaweed tossed in a tiny bit of vinaigrette. The tuna was rich, meaty and fatty. It had a rich feeling on the tongue.
R & G Lounge- This Chinatown eatery is jam packed by 12:00 with locals, tourists and business persons. Try to go as early as possible or mid afternoon. They have a lot of good choices we enjoyed the chicken in XO sauce, R&G special beef, BBQ pork and spring rolls (it was a festival of meats). I love XO sauce, I am not really a fan of sticky sweet sauces, but salty ones full of the taste of rich pork fat are right up my ally. The chicken was tender, not chewy and the snow peas with the XO sauce was so good, I could have had just that. the R&G special beef was a nice mix between tender, crisp and chewy. the outside was slightly crisp and a little salty, but not crisp enough that it made it chewy as it was perfectly tender inside. The spring rolls were spring rolls… good, but not different from the norm, not that I know exactly what the norm is as I don’t eat great Chinese food often. The BBQ pork tastes like a mix of bacon, pork belly and ham served with brown beans that have slightly hard shell but when bitten open up. They taste a bit like baked beans without the goopiness. Overall this place was great. Seeing all the dishes coming out of the kitchen you wished you had a big group to share a bunch of dishes. Anyway… enjoy!
I will post again when I can, but I don’t know when that will be, but I promise starting in June when I get back there will be lots of new posts to read.
